Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, newly appointed director general of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Organisation, yesterday vowed to do all within his power to ensure the success of the APC in next year’s presidential election.

The party’s vice-presidential candidate, Senator Kashim Shettima, separately appealed to youths to unite to vote for the APC flag bearer, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, promising that youths would play a pivotal role in government if the party won.

Lalong told party supporters who welcomed him at the Yakubu Gowon Airport, Jos, on his return from Abuja: “This is another time for us to work for the victory of APC and also the victory of Tinubu/Shettima presidential ticket.”

He urged Nigerians to keep religion out of politics.

Lalong stated that his position as the campaign council’s director general demonstrates that Plateau people are respected in national politics and that the state will support the APC.

He said: “Campaigning for Tinubu/Shettima Presidential election will not be a new thing for us in Plateau State; it is not a difficult task at all. It was the same difficulty we faced in 2015 when some people said we would not win the election because we were tagged a Muslim party, but we won that election.

All I want is for us to cement our relationship. Nigeria is one nation. The challenges that we have are not from the Muslims or the Christians. We have common challenges and our duty is to unite the people for development.

“I have capable hands on ground whom we will work together to deliver APC in the next election,” he affirmed.

Tinubu/Shettima coasting home to victory says Wase

House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Ahmed Idris Wase has said that the APC is on course to victory in the 2023 presidential election with the Tinubu/Shettima ticket.

Wase in a congratulatory message to Governor Lalong on his appointment as the Director General of the Presidential Campaign Organisation, said the governor was competent and fit to lead the campaign.

He described Lalong as “detribalised, very resourceful, ingenious and practical politician, an adept listener and a leader with the right attitude to grind out results where others cannot succeed.

“There could not have been a better choice than this. Governor Lalong has over the years proven beyond reasonable doubts that he is a unifier, a strategist, a mobiliser, a team-player and a leader per excellence.

Plateau APC congratulates Lalong on appointment

The Plateau State Chapter of the APC congratulated the governor on his appointment as DG of the Tinubu Presidential  Campaign Organisation.

The State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Sylvanus Namang, said  the choice of Governor Lalong for the assignment was most appropriate based on his pedigree and sterling qualities in service delivery.

He quoted the State APC Chairman, Hon Rufus Bature, as saying that Lalong’s ability to harness people’s diversity for the common good of all made him the right choice for the position.

Senator Daduut too

The Senator representing Plateau South, Prof Nora Ladi Daduut, also congratulated the governor on the appointment, saying she had no doubts about the governor’s capacity to deliver on the assignment.

“With God on your side, you shall prove your doubters wrong and deliver on this responsibility of leading our party to victory at the polls,” she said.

Senator Daduut, who pledged her loyalty to the APC and Governor Simon Lalong, promised to work for the victory of the party in the forthcoming general elections.

Appointment will re-awaken zeal in APC, says commissioner

The Plateau State Commissioner for Land and Survey, Mr Yakubu Dati, described Lalong’s appointment as electrifying.

”In less than 24 hours after his appointment as the Director General of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Organization, the political stratosphere in Nigeria is already electrified.

“Few political events have excited the populace in recent times like the reality of having Governor Simon Lalong leading the APC campaign trail ahead the 2023 general elections,” Dati said.

He added: “The excitement reverberating in the APC over the choice of the governor as campaign DG proves that not only has the party made the right choice, but that his appointment has added a lease of life to the APC behemoth.

Shettima to youths: Unite to elect Tinubu President in 2023

Senator Kashim Shettima, during an interactive session with a delegation of Arewa Youth for Tinubu Support Group in Abuja on Thursday, urged them to mobilise youths from across the country to support the party to emerge victorious in next year’s election.

He said their pivotal role in an APC government was assured.

Shettima said the APC, if it won the election, would form an all inclusive government.

His words: “In the next dispensation, we shall be all inclusive. We are going to carry the youths along.

“The issue of us saying the youths are too young to be at the stewardship of the nation cannot stand the test of empirical verification.

“The nation belongs to the youths. The youths are the future of this nation.

Senator Shettima urged the youths not to be deterred by “artificial divergence being manufactured by ethnic and religious entrepreneurs who want to smile their ways to the bank on the agonies of our people.”

He added: “My daughter got married last Saturday. The musicians that they invited to play, almost 90 per cent of them are from the South.

“Nobody knew which language or their mother tongue or the faith that they profess. This is the Nigeria of our dream; where all of us should fuse into one irrespective of differences and political affiliations, religious persuasion, fibre or sectional background.”

Chairman of the occasion and Patron of the support group, Senator Aliyu Abdullahi, said the group would deliver the northern region for Tinubu and Shettima in 2023.

Abdullahi, who is the Deputy Chief Whip, said: “We thank God for the success of this event. The initiative is a laudable one as it will help in delivering the northern region for Tinubu and Shettima 2023.

The event was attended by former Nasarawa State governor, Sen Tanko Al-Makura, Sen Suleiman Umar, a former Presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba II, among other dignitaries.
